Tucked between Lot 6 and Drake Stadium, just a stone's throw from the Bruin Bear, sits the greatest venue in all of sports: Pauley Pavilion.

There's a lot more depth in the Pac-10 at defensive end than at tackle, which makes sense in a pass-centric conference.

Two interesting tidbits from Jim Parker, beginning with a UCLA tale: "In the mid- to late 1950s, UCLA's legendary head football coach Henry 'Red' Sanders would purchase the team's home powder blue jerseys in a lighter shade of blue each successive season, until they were almost as pale as the visiting teams white jerseys (although the jerseys were still blue enough for players and fans to tell the two teams apart).

UCLA tailback Christian Ramirez has been ruled academically ineligible for the upcoming season. He is expected to use the year to red-shirt, and will have two years of eligibility remaining. I should have more later tonight. [end text]

UCLA safety Bret Lockett will miss the Sept. 1 opener with Tennessee because he violated a team policy concerning academics. Lockett, who can practice with the team, is a senior who is the projected starter at strong safety.

Perhaps the slow crawl along the jammed streets near the Rose Bowl will be a little easier if fans can summon the image of Sterling Marlin (below right) whipping around the track in a car splattered in corporate logos?

The UCLA football team, which faces uphill odds after losing 12 offensive and defensive starters, isn't getting any help in the classroom.

What comes to mind is Josh's over the backboard ( I still say it was along side the top courner of the board) shot v. Cal.

DC's two Tyus E's 4.8 impersonation v. TX A&M.
_________________
Protect Bruins fans' reputation, boycott Bruinsnation.com
I gotta agree with all mentioned above, and add that the very first game exhibition game against Portland State had a special moment of vindication for me in light of all the local Love-bashing on message boards on the Oregonian's website.

All through Love's HS career, I kept reading "hater" posts that kept saying "he's a slow, white rich boy, he'll never be any good" and other, much more vitriolic garbage bashing his family and the town of Lake Oswego, etc.

I knew better, and kept telling these idjits that Love would be a monster at the next level, and so on... But the haters kept badgering.

The vindication for me (and Love, if he cared about message-board noise) came when, starting on the VERY first trip down the floor, before Kevin had had any chance to show anyone what he could do, Portland State double-teamed Kevin immediately and constantly whenever the ball got into UCLA's forecourt, even away from the ball. I was thinking, "Hey! They haven't even seen him PLAY yet, and they're scheming and game-planning especially for him! He must be REAL good!"

That felt real good to me
_________________
It's the BRUIN show!!
