Rick Neuheisel's return to the crosstown rivalry was a rousing success for, oh, about four minutes Saturday afternoon, peaking when Moreno Valley Valley View graduate and wideout Dominique Johnson took a lateral and lofted a 21-yard touchdown pass to Kahlil Bell for a 7-0 lead.
By the end, with USC comfortably in front 28-7 and many of the 87,790 fans having already reached the Rose Bowl exits, Neuheisel and his players and coaches were reminded of some hard truths.

Bruins Tame LSU Tigers in NCAA First-Round Match (101 clicks)

I look at USC having the top-ranked defense in the nation in scoring (7.8 ppg) and yards allowed (210.6 ypg) and UCLA having one of the statistically worst offenses in the nation, and a turnover-prone offense at that, and wonder how UCLA can have a shot in this game.

Bruins Earn #14 National Seed in NCAA Tournament, Host First and Second Rounds (110 clicks)
The UCLA women's volleyball team earned a #14-national seed in this year's NCAA Tournament and will host the first and second rounds, which begin on Friday at Pauley Pavilion. The Bruins (20-10, 9-9 Pac-10) will host LSU (18-9, 13-7 SEC) in the first round at 8 p.m., while San Francisco (22-7, 11-3 WCC) and Duke (24-8, 15-5 ACC) square off at 5:30 p.m. The winners of the two matches will play in the second round on Saturday at 7 p.m.
