Shaking Up The Core: Thoughts On Changing Up UCLA Basketball's Starting Lineup/Rotation (140 clicks)
So here I go. I have seen 4 regular season games this year. 5 if I count the second exhibition game against Humboldt State, which I saw via the pathetic online feed from the official site. Based on what I have seen so far here is the starting lineup that seems to make sense: I think for the short term Howland needs to make two critical moves: Bench Dragovic for rest of the year (duh) limiting him not much more than 10-12 mins per game Bench Anderson and limit his mins to not more than 15 mins per game.

Spaulding Roundup: Practice For Youngsters, QB Updates, Golden's Wandering Eyes & Other Bowl Prep Notes (71 clicks)
Let's start the Monday with a football roundup. We have lots of bits and pieces of news coming out of Spaulding (and out of Philadelphia) as the Bruins get ready for their first bowl game under Rick Neuheisel in Westwood. We all desperately wanted this bowl game because it would provide a big opportunity for coaches to get the underclassmen in this program additional practice time. Well from the first reports, it looks like the coaches are doing just that. Meanwhile, out in Philadelphia, an interesting subplot is shaping up around the Temple Owls, as it appears that they will have to deal with constant chatter of Al Golden exploring other head coaching opportunities (just like he did when the UCLA position opened up little more than two years ago).

Felt like the first practice of a new season, and in some ways it was. * Rick Neuheisel and several players said the first few days of preparation for Temple would be mostly about analyzing some of the younger players. * Position battles remaining are at right guard, where Ryan Taylor returned but appeared hobbled by his foot injury; cornerback, where Sheldon Price and Aaron Hester continue their maneuvering; and running back, between Chane Moline, Derrick Coleman and Johnathan Franklin.

I wouldn't have been surprised if the UCLA Bruins were singing "Anchors Aweigh!" late Saturday afternoon, because... Due to the Navy Midshipmen's 17-3 victory over Army in their annual rivalry game, UCLA will play in a post season bowl for the first time in the Rick Neuheisel era. On December 29, the Bruins will play in the Eagle Bank Bowl at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. Brief Q&A with Tyler Honeycutt (134 clicks)
Freshman forward Tyler Honeycutt played his first game for UCLA last night in the team's 73-61 loss to top-ranked Kansas. Honeycutt didn't exactly scorch up the stat sheet - 1-for-6 shooting, three points - but his six rebounds showed his athleticism and energy. With Reeves Nelson moving into the starting lineup and Honeycutt recovered from a stress reaction in his shins and a sore back, the Bruins will be a scrappier group, a high-energy team that battles on the boards. How do you feel?

The Bruins stuck to their trademark man-to-man for a couple of reasons.
First, Kansas is big but not as quick on the perimeter as teams such as Portland that have consistently beaten UCLA off the dribble.
