Not a question on 2010 recruits, but the process. In your opinion, how much more effective do you see us being with ability to establish long-term relationship building?
It is huge. UCLA already has offered a bundle of 2010 kids, and those relationships will have existed for a while before those players make their college decisions. Knowing someone for two or three years before making a decision helps in the process.

Is this potentially the best football recruiting class you've UCLA pull in since you have been covering them? I think last year's was pretty darn good, but this could be the best. It will take some time to know that, though, because the offensive linemen need to develop. I look at two things from this class, and that is the offensive line and speed on offense. Two huge things for UCLA.

"It ALL STARTS with our DEFENSE" (155 clicks)
I wrote yesterday about how we wanted our Ben Ball warriors to repeat Thursday. We wanted them to sustain the (defense generated) momentum gained from putting together probably the best all around performance of the season against the Bears. Well they got it done yesterday afternoon.

A Holiday Classic: Double-A and Holiday Force team from Bay to Altar ways, with 40-14 spurt and 97-63 spanking A couple of losses has apparently made the Bruins start practicing more Religiously. At least it LOOKS like they’ve been working harder and getting better-prepared.

Stanford Video Highlights (164 clicks)
Before the full game highlights, I want to focus again on AA3. Yes, I mean "3", as in Animal Alfred Aboya. 15 points, 6 rebounds and a couple assists and steals, plus all kinds of hustle. He's going after the ball like Blagojevich going after a bribe. Say what you will about his outside jumper, but it's falling and he's not forcing it up, which complements his nice moves to the hoop.

It was just a late throwaway play between two backup guards.
UCLA's Malcolm Lee had knocked the ball out of the hands of Stanford's Jarrett Mann and it was bouncing about 6 feet from each player.
The next moment said everything about UCLA's 97-63 romp over Stanford on Saturday.

Howland finally lets athletes loose (235 clicks)
Senior leadership still counts in college basketball, it seems.
Following last Saturday's discouraging loss at Washington, UCLA coach Ben Howland brought seniors Darren Collison, Alfred Aboya and Josh Shipp in for a little heart-to-heart.
The message: Lead more, through both words and actions.

Yes, Ben Howland is happy (177 clicks)
After beating Cal on Thursday, 81-66, Ben Howland seemed out of character. "I don't have a lot to complain about tonight," said UCLA's coach. "I'm pretty happy."
After beating Stanford on Saturday, 97-53, he was nearly giddy when talking about the play of Alfred Aboya. Nearly -- which is as enthusiastic as Howland gets.

Effort on offense is impressive for UCLA (192 clicks)
Bruins shoot 74% from the field in the second half and make 73% of their overall three-point attempts. No matter how much Coach Ben Howland and his players talked about defense after UCLA's 97-63 victory over Stanford on Saturday, it was hard to ignore the numbers on offense.

This homestand against the Bay Area schools is turning out to be the complete opposite of last year's. Last year's edition of the Bruins used a miracle shot by Josh Shipp to secure the win over Cal, and a controversial call to beat Stanford at home.

A Big Night For A Little Bruin (153 clicks)
Like any Bruin, one of Tyler's favorite things in the world is going to UCLA basketball games. He's already in prime Bruin Den form: screaming his lungs out on defense, raising a finger for free throws, and always, always staying to dance to "Rover" at the end of victories. Unfortunately because of his chemotherapy treatments, he hasn't been able to go to as many games as either of us would have liked.
