The Early Words: UCLA falls to Cal (60 clicks)
A sneezing two-week old kitten.A puppy on Prozac.A baby lamb struggling to take its first steps.Answer: What are things meaner than the UCLA men's basketball team? The Bruins once again struggled to put their foot down, once again refused to keep a big lead, once again looked on helplessly as a struggling team righted itself and left them in the dust.UCLA watched an 11-point lead turn into a 7-point deficit in just eight minutes to close the first half, and Cal cruised down the stretch to a 72-58 win at Pauley Pavilion on Saturday afternoon.

More Game Photos From Thursday, With Dance Team Bonus Pics. (97 clicks)
There definitely appear to be some mixed reviews from the last night's game vs Stanford. The people who went to the game seemed to view it far more favorably than those that watched on tv. I think ultimately, the reason for the optimistic view from those in attendance is because, for once this year, the crowd was actually really into the game (at least down the stretch).

Pimping Sunshine? My thoughts on this UCLA basketball team (93 clicks)
Long time lurker, first time poster. I've been following this blog since its very nascent stages, and am very impressed with the growth and the always increasing quality of the discussion here. I have many times thought that I should actually create an account here and begin to contribute to the discussion myself, but for whatever reason I decided to maintain my lurker status. I'm not sure what has sparked this sudden change of heart, but I recently decided to create an account, and so here I am.

Center Court: UCLA Basketball (v. California) Open Thread (39 clicks)
Woooo!!! How excited are we to watch the battle for the first place in Pac-10!! Can hardly contain myself here as I am about to head out in almost three feet of snow out to my local bar to watch this game (not kidding). I have no idea why I am doing it considering the last time I went to that bar (for a game on CBS) we got pummeled by Arizona. Then again if this team was worth the superstition, then I'd stay away from the bar. Not this year.

Hoops Game Day Roundup: Angry Bears Looking For Vengeance In Pauley (64 clicks)
It would help if Malcolm Lee plays more like a pitbull (on both ends of the court) than a poodle. Let's start with a quick follow up on the bruhahahah over Malcolm Lee's twitter who fired off what clearly appeared to be a shot against Ben Howland's scheme at UCLA, right after his team's close victory over a bad Stanford basketball team. While the tweet was deleted within couple of hours, there has been no explanation and no followup tweet from Malcolm. So as of right now that tweet pretty much speaks for itself in terms of how the supposedly the best player in UCLA's backcourt feels about his head coach's game schemes.

Poor James Keefe. Only if he had gotten himself in trouble with the law (including wrapped up with allegations of beating his girlfriend) TWICE, never bothered or made an effort to play any defense (getting torched game after game forcing his coach to change defensive schemes just to HIDE him as a weakness), grew a pathetic beard, jack up one brick after another to shoot his team out of big games, he too could have averaged more than 30 minutes a game.

Ben Ball Poodles Look Pretty Early But Predictably Collapse In Pauley (56 clicks)
Well hello there everyone. Get used to a new addition for our lexicon. Ben Ball Poodles. At least yours truly will be using that to refer to Ben Howland's mentally soft and IQ challenged basketball "team" for rest of this. The final score was not surprising because we all saw this coming. Mike Montgomery's Cal Bears decided to show up the play today instead of taking our BBPs for granted, and as a result predictably ran away with it on our home court at Pauley.

I feel like a broken record, because it is the same problem week after week. That is why I am constantly amazed when people start to get excited about this team. They are what they are, they have proven what they are, and they won’t get any better or any worse. They are a .500 team, capable of putting together decent games, but incapable of putting together the consistent play needed to truly be a winner.

Still Ticking: Couple Of Positive Points On UCLA Basketball (73 clicks)
I am hesitant to say something nice about this year's basketball team. Seems like every time I say something nice about the team (like getting excited after the win over Arizona State or even cautiously optimistic after the win over Washington State), they immediately go on to stumble next game. As I wrote in my last post that I found last night's game mostly unwatchable. However, as pointed out in the comment threads, sometimes boring games are expected when it features two teams playing zone defense and at least one of them doesn't have blue chip athletes on its roster.
