Kiss The Court (162 clicks)
It took 4 and 2/3 quarters to graduate from UCLA. Even though I "walked" in June of 1996 for all intent and purposes my "Senior Day" at Pauley was the last home game of 1994-95 season against Oregon Ducks. IIRC it was the last time a UCLA basketball team finished with only 2 losses in the Pac-10 (although one of those losses - our only home loss (ironically) against Cal - was later voided because Todd Bozeman's shady dealings up in Berkeley).

Reviewing the foul (203 clicks)
I spoke to Pac-10 coordinator of officials Bill McCabe earlier today about the foul called on Stanford's Lawrence Hill at the end of regulation against UCLA's Darren Collison. It led to two free throws with 2.5 seconds remaining and allowed UCLA to force overtime, where it won 77-67. McCabe said he spoke to the official who made call, Kevin Brill. "It was a good block up top, contact with the body. That's what (Brill) sees,'' McCabe said. "My personal opinion is I'd like a stronger call than that. The rule book doesn't state strong call or weak call, but that's what you want, a strong call, to close out the game."

Stats and stuff (126 clicks)
UCLA has tied a school record for most victories in a three-year span (89 in 1971-73). UCLA is 89-15 in the last three years. The last time UCLA won three straight Pac-10 titles was 1995-96-97. Since UCLA's 13-year streak ended, winning three straight league titles in the Pac-10 has occurred just four times – Oregon State in 1980-81-82, UCLA in 1995-96-97, Stanford in 1999-00-01 and UCLA in 2006-07-08.

Pac-10 and NCAAs (158 clicks)
No Pac-10 team that finished 9-9 in the conference has made the NCAA Tournament, but that is expected to be challenged this season. USC, Arizona State, Arizona and Oregon could each find themselves with nine wins, and having a good shot at the NCAAs.

Pauley Pavilion: What's Not to Love? (283 clicks)
A visit to Pauley Pavilion takes you to a place the scholarly Wooden still haunts, for the ultimate lesson in college hoops history. On occasion you can catch the 97-year-old coach signing his books here. But he has already left his name all over UCLA.

Arizona Notes: Humble Cats? (148 clicks)
Things are tough for Arizona Wildcats these days. A program which during recent years (which not coincidentally were our "dark years" in BN) was used to checking national polls and being preoccupied with high seeding chatter this time of the year is fighting just to get in the Big Dance. The swagger is kind of gone and now we are seeing a humbler version of Wildcats:

Does conference RPI tell us anything meaningful? (152 clicks)
Talk of which conference is the best in college basketball this season has been a popular pastime over the past several weeks, among fans as well as the columnists and talking heads that make their living covering the sport. The "best conference" debate is very much an open question; while most have placed either the Pac-10 or the Big East in the #1 spot, the ACC has again gotten some love (particularly from the WWL), based upon its having the highest conference RPI.
