Wisdom From The Wizard (130 clicks)
'It's the things you learn after you know it all that count.' HE'S 96 NOW, but legendary basketball coach John Wooden still holds close the values passed on by his father when he graduated from grammar school. In fact, tucked in his pocket is a copy of the seven-point creed his dad gave him that day, planting the seed in a boy who became known not only for his prowess on the court, but as a role model for generations.

7-7 Drills (107 clicks)
I can say that Osaar Rasshan will make one KICKASS WR. Dude has prototype size, nice jets, fluid moves & a surprisingly fine set of paws. Other players confirmed he has been snagging stone VERY WELL all summer. When I asked him if he had any experience playing WR, he mentioned that he played WR as a frosh on the varsity at Garey HS in Pomona. As for any hard feelings about making the switch to WR, he was all about helping UCLA football. Speaking of which, he got open often, didn't drop a ball thrown his way & made some nice snags with decent technique, (hands fully extended), while showing the usual freakish athleticism.

Sooners Punished; What About USC? (106 clicks)
The NCAA committee on infractions handed down its sanctions against Oklahoma on Wednesday for last year's Rhett Bomar/J.D. Quinn car-dealership fiasco. For failing to properly monitor the players' fraudulent employment, the university -- which was already on probation for the Kelvin Sampson phone-call scam in basketball -- will see its stint in the penalty box extended for two years, through 2010, forfeit two scholarships in its next two recruiting classes and must vacate its eight wins from the 2005 season, in which both Bomar and Quinn participated.

Byrnes Enjoying The Dog Days (77 clicks)
DURING FOX's coverage of the All-Star Game tonight, Eric Byrnes of the Arizona Diamondbacks will be reporting from a kayak in McCovey Cove — along with his pet bulldog, Bruin. Fox notes that Byrnes, who went to St. Francis High in Mountain View and played for UCLA, is the first active player to work an All-Star Game telecast.
(HOW COOL IS IT THAT BYRNES HAS A SWIMMING BULLDOG NAMED "BRUIN"?)

LAT's "UCLA" Blogger Writing Like Trev Alberts (106 clicks)
So the Trojan Times rolled out a little blog to cover the UCLA beat (no doubt realizing its coverage was getting embarrassed by Dohn's diligent reporting day after day). I haven't put it up on our blogroll yet because I am not sure exactly how legit this Rich Perleman guy is going to be. But judging from his early work it seems like just like his colleagues who cover the UCLA beat, he is pretty much clueless.

Russ: Lasting impression (212 clicks)
His dunk lives on through Youtube.com. Russell Westbrook chose a good time for his high-flying jam against Indiana in the second round at the NCAA Tournament in Sacramento. Yes, UCLA's sophomore backup point guard is making it clear there's more to his game than setting up teammates.

UCLA Baseball Offseason Report (73 clicks)
The UCLA Bruin baseball team had a very successful 2007 season in which they made the Super Regionals before falling to Cal St. Fulleron and their offseason has proven to be just as successful thus far. From a recruiting standpoint, the Bruins look likely to bring in ther 3rd consecutive top 15 class in the country and will add those players to the players returning who are all performing well in their respective summer leagues. Looking ahead to the 2008 season, a numer of media outlets are very high on the Bruins, proclaiming them their favorites to reach the 2008 College World Series in Omaha. On top of that, UCLA released their 2008 schedule, which features 4 of the 8 2007 College World Series participants and looks as if it will equal their past 2 schedules, which were ranked #1 and #3 in the country respectively.

Bailey making most of opportunity (200 clicks)
The success of Matt Barnes, another UCLA alum, at cracking the Warriors' roster last season after being a training camp invitee helped motivate Bailey's return. Not that Bailey, who was a senior with the Bruins when Warriors point guard Baron Davis was a freshman, is expecting to be carried along by his school ties.
