UCLA increased its confidence measurably along the offensive line by rushing for 234 yards on 38 carries, for an average of 6.2 yards per try. There were some circumstances with it, like quarterback Kevin Craft's scrambling (46 rushing yards) and the Bruins catching Fresno State by surprise utilizing running back Derrick Coleman with a direct snap a few times, one of which led to a 44-yard run.

Let’s build on Class of 66’s post game thoughts because I found myself nodding with most of what he wrote. Now that I have had some time to think about it and replay the two in game situations (call to for it on 4th and 1 and the decision to accept the holding penalty that put Fresno State at a 3rd and 22), I find myself completely as peace with the decisions CRN made on those two situations.

Expanding On A Couple of My Game Day Thread Comments. Some are questioning a couple of CRN's game decisions -- going for the 4th and 1, and accepting the penalty rather than forcing the field goal. I do not question those decisions: In the context of the big picture mission -- the creation of a positive attitude and winning culture, CRN made the right call each time.

Photos: Fresno State @ UCLA (71 clicks)
Hot day at the Rose Bowl and though Austin's 100-yard kickoff return to start the game was called back, it gave us a bit of an idea of what we were in for. I mean, blocked PAT's (one returned by the Bruins for two points), a punt returned for a TD (dang FSU), an interception by DT Brian Price, and 250 combined kickoff and punt return yards and almost 300 yards of total offense by Terrence Austin! Oh yeah, we lost.

Faced with one of the most important carries of his young career at UCLA, Derrick Coleman went off-tackle to the right side late in Saturday's game and felt the ball come free of his hands.
Fresno State recovered the ball at its 10-yard line, and for the next nine minutes, the Bruins' offense stood on the sideline and watched its chance at a much-needed upset victory slip away.
